Slight wear to edges and corners of boards and dust jacket. 288 p. w/illustrations, bibliography, index. Bargrave (1628-1661) traveled extensively between 1647 and 1656 for both mercantile anbd diplomatic purposes. Setting out in 1647 with the new ambassador to Turkey Sir Thomas Bendish, Bragrave travelled to Spain, throughout the Mediterranean, and on to Constantinople. His return and subsequent trips took him to Eastern and Central Europe, the interior of Spain, and north west Europe. Bargrave died on a 5th journey while accompanying his new benefactor the Earl of Winchilsea to his new ambassadorship to Constantinople, where he would be relieving Bendish. He died in Italy of fever under the care of his wife and was buried there.
