Oxford: At the Clarendon Press, 1970. Hardcover. xviii, 219p., illustrated with four modern line maps, first edition dark blue waxed cloth boards gilt in dust jacket. Book itself has slight crimpings to top and tail rims, boards mildly scratched, top edge bears a few dots of foxing, dj has top-edge wear with an inch-long repaired tear (verso tape) and slight discoloration of spine panel (doesn't affect titling), a generally sound copy with clean, unmarked text. A brisk trade emerged with an exchange of firearms for slaves."By the end of the seventeenth century guns had turned the Gold Coast, formerly a gold mine, into a slave mart.
