MANUSCRIPT, 18th century; apparently student abstracts from four texts of the Medical School at Montpellier: 1) Astruc, Tractatus de Morbis Mulierum (Garrison-Morton 6019), 1 leaf, 171 pages, 2 blank leaves, two-page index capitum [ends at the heading for Caput 27 mm, "De cancro mammarum", lacking from this text]; 2) Tractatus pathologicus de morbis veneresi (Garrison-Morton 5195), 1 leaf, 69, [1] pages; 3) De Morbis oculorum, 1 leaf, 47 pages, 1 leaf, 2 blank leaves [Astruc introduced the artificial eye]; 4) Febrium curationes [by Jacques Lazerme, 1675-1756], 1 leaf, 38 pages, 1 leaf, 3 blank leaves; 17.5 cm. Provenance: "From the library of Dr. Radcliff, Seekonk / obtained there by me Oct. 1868 C. W. Parsons." Charles W. Parsons, 1823-1893, was the son of Usher Parsons, an important Providence physician, and a daughter of Oliver Wendell Holmes (The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table). When his mother died early, Charles was brought up in Holmes's household. Bound in modern full calf. Stock#NS0148.
