Full title: Topographical and Statistical Description of the County of York, Containing an Account of its Situation, Extent, Towns, Rivers, Lakes, Mines, Fisheries, Manufactures, Trade, Commerce, Agricultur, Curiosities, Antiquities, Civil and Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction etc. To which are prefixed, The Direct and Principal Cross Roads, Distance of Stages, Inns, and Noblemen and Gentlemen's Seats: Also a List of the Markets, and Fairs, And an Index Table, Exhibiting, at one view, the Distances of all Towns from London and from each: The whole forming a Complete County Itinerary, Illustrated with Maps of the Eight Picturesque Views. Half-leather with rubbed marbled boards and lightly bumped corners, simple gilt lettering and lining on spine. Sound binding, with bookplate for Douglass of Tilquhillie and ink "John Douglass". Clean pages. Contains frontis showing Micklegate Bar, York, coloured fold-out map of Yorkshire and three coloured fold-out maps of the Ridings, All maps are clean and intact. Illustrations are all present but printed two to a page and therefore not all at the pages given in the instructions to binder. No dust jacket, as published. Undated by publisher. Scarce work. Dated from the Society of Antiquaries of London Library. Illustrated with one folding map and four plates. A topographical study on Lancaster, with statistical descriptions, and an account of the various towns, rivers, lakes, fisheries, trades, mines, agriculture, and curiosities both natural and historical. Written by George Albert Cooke, a British Anglican clergyman and academic. In the original paper wraps. Externally, worn with shelf wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Front board detached with tape to the edge from previous attempt to repair. Rear board held by cords only. Light loss to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, generally firmly bound with some pages loosening. Pages are bright with the odd handling mark. Good Only
