Described are: the Versailles Suite, the Chantilly Suite, the Cafe de Paris; First Class and Cabin Class dining and smoking rooms; theatre; reading room; gymnasium; tourist class salon, smoking room and bar. A 24-inch centerspread from a Lindner painting shows the Ile de France in full color. 12" x 8.25" Originally launched in 1927, the S.S. Ile de France was converted to a troopship in 1941. In 1947, the ship was returned to France, rebuilt, and launched on her second maiden voyage in 1949. This brochure celebrates the post-war, transatlantic Ile de France.

Camden, Maine: International Marine Publishing Company. Very Good+ in Good+ dust jacket. 1978. Hardcover. Tan cover with gilt lettering on spine has very minimal wear and is clean. Binding sound. There are small very light tide marks on the inside upper corners infringing slightly onto the paste down endpapers. There is a some speckled foxing on the upper part of the endpapers. A small splatter on the upper corner of the text block is visible on about 15 leaves and has left a faint tide mark about 3/8" in from corner, no wrinkling. Pages otherwise clean and unmarked. There is light speckled foxing on the top edge due to dust. DJ has light fading over spine. There is light wear along the upper edge with a few tiny chips. There are tide marks present on the inside of the DJ at the upper corners, which are also visible on the inner flaps but not apparent on the front or back. Not price clipped. Contemporary blind-panelled calf, spine with gilt-lettered morocco label, (193 x 120mm), London: Printed for J. Senex, W. & J. Innys, J. Osborn & T. Longman, 1726. FIRST EDITION of one of the most famous buccaneering voyages. This privately-funded privateering voyage sought to duplicate the success of Woodes Rogers' highly profitable voyage of 1708-1711.
Shelvocke commanded the Speedwell and John Clipperton commanded the Success. They were jointly involved in raids against Spanish shipping on the west coast of South America. Shelvocke parted from Clipperton to conduct his own raids in Peru and to sail up the coast to Cabo San Lucas where he remained for some months and wrote one of the earliest descriptions of the Indians of Baja California.
