Hutchinson of London, London, 1964. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. 600 g; XXVIII, 248 pages, list of illustrations, foreword by Edgar Snow, 6 appendices and index. Map illustrated endpapers, showing Tibet and the surrounding countries. Map frontispiece, showing Lhasa Valley from Sera Monastery. The text is illustrated with coloured and black-and-white photographs. Red coloured boards with gilt illustration to the front panel and gilt writing to the spine. Bumping and rubbing to the head and heel of the backstrip and book corners. The spine is cocked. Heavy shelf wear to the lower book edges and there has been some flecking of the front and back book panels. Some foxing to the text block edges. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower edge of the front taste down. Age toning to the internal pages. Photographic dustwrapper, saying photograph as for frontispiece , with black and white writing on the front panel and spine. Rubbing and creasing to the top and bottom dustwrapper edges. The major damage to the dustwrapper has been the total disassociation of the front fold over panel from the rest of the dustwrapper, dustwrapper now in protective library sleeving. The authors were given the first Tibetan passport issued by Peking. The authors then made the most hazardous flight in the world over the vast ice-bound mountain barrier enclosing the most mysterious country on earth. For five weeks they went wherever they wished.
