Jonathan Cape, London, 1930. First Edition. Hardcover. Ex Library/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Illustrated. 590 g.; IV, 5-292 pages, last two pages blank, and index. Sepia toned photographic frontispiece, showing "Clmenceau, 1919" from a bust by Jo Davidson. The text is illustrated with sepia toned photographs and illustrations throughout the book. Red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Bumping to the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book corners. This book is an ex-library copy and has library stamps to all text block edges and verso of the title page (which has a red cancelled stamp through it), along with a date stamp, 20 Jan 1971, to the top left-hand corner of the verso of the title page. There is a library number to the top right-hand corner of page number five, they are the only signs of library marking. However a previous owner has placed their name sticker to the free front end paper. Browning and slight offset tanning to the endpapers and light age toning of the internal text. The biography of the French politician Georges Clmenceau, who throughout his long life and political career was both hated and revered by his fellow Frenchman. He oversaw that the debacle that was the Dreyfus affair and the German capitulation and reparations to be paid at the end of World War I among his notable [and infamous] career.
