About This Item

New York: MACMILLAN. Very Good+ in Very Good- dust jacket. 1958. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. FIRST EDITION, FIRST Printing Stated. Pictorial paper-covered boards in it's original and Identical pictorial dustjacket. The boards are VERY BRIGHT and Clean overall, with a little foxing/light brown spotting to the edges. The dustjacket has quite a lot of light browning/foxing/patching to the reverse, and particularly to the folds of the flaps and spine which shows through in places to the front side of the dustjacket. Sunning to the d/j spine has darkened the deep yellow-orange base colour to the title, with some light chipping to the head/tail of the spine, but no loss. Plus a little discolouration/marking to the edges mainly. Both corners of the front flap are clipped (but the original price - $2.50 - is still present on the top of the flap. A very few spots to the page fore-edges - but the book is overall VG. SEE IMAGES. The dustjacket is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks much better. Internally some very light foxing spots/patching here and there - the endpapers particularly, but the body of the book is, in the main, VERY Clean, Bright and Tight, and illustrated by Glen Dines with the most Vibrant colouring. Wonderful! NO Inscriptions or other Marks. Unpaginated. "Long ago in OLD JAPAN a timid tiger and a forgetful magician lived high in the branches of a beautiful cherry tree. At first the townspeople welcomed the odd pair, but the magician, as he was absent-minded, - would invariably forget to stop his magic so that in time the tidy village became cluttered with his wondrous inventions. This, the townspeople thought, would never do. So they set about to net the tiger and capture the old man, who, by some magic, had vanished. Once more the village was in order, but the cherry tree, (a Sakura) dying of grief for its old inhabitants began to die. And only, the old man, realizing that the villagers were now wiser, was able to restore it, which he did so that he and the tiger and the cherry tree could live together happily ever after. Both in text and illustration, Glen Dines has captured that vigour and spontaneity which are so prominent in Japanese illustrated stories, combining them with his own uniquely vital style." . A Most Delightful and VERY Scarce Title - particularly in this condition. SEE IMAGES. Rare. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall .
