London: George Routledge & Sons Ltd, 1942. Third edition. A hostile, anti-German anthology purporting to trace the unbroken continuity of 'Pan-German nationalism' and its attendant racialism, nationalism and militarism. The book collects decontextualized quotations from Germans throughout history to support the book's contentions, a format often employed in books maligning Jews or Communists. The fanatical anti-German Sir Robert Vansittart contributes a lengthy preface, in which he articulates sentiments found in his polemical pamphlet, Black Record, published the same year. Scholar Daniel Cowling contends that Poole and Potter were pseudonyms for the Polish diplomat, W adys aw Wszebór Kulski. One of a number of influential anti-German works published in Britain at the beginning of WWII. Black cloth boards (5 ¾" x 8") with the title printed in orange along the spine, xl, 438 p., plates, maps. Chipping to spine ends, corners bumped and fraying, Dutch stamp to ffep, lightly penciled name to title page, else clean throughout. Lacking the dust jacket.
