About This Item
Edinburgh: For Robert Cadell, 1833. Octavo. Second edition, revised. In two volumes. 525pp. and 544pp. large folding map with a closed tear repair to margin near gutter (though the repair did not hold and is still split). After being acquitted of murder during a duell in which he shot his opponent, he decided to travel to America. He published a two volume set on his travels and of the observations regarding minute details of every day habits, and the social condition of the people in those parts of the United States he traveled. During this period, there were several travelers from England visiting America including Mrs. Trollope who wrote an amusing story of her travels in America. Bound in 3/4 maroon calf over maroon silk covered boards, raised bands with compartments lettered and fully decorate in gilt, all edge marbled, a very good copy.
