Collection of the three plays that earned Philadephia born, Bronx raised Clifford Odets (1906 - 1963) a reputation of a leading proletarian playwright, although he was less concerned with workers than the "fraud" of middleclass sector who were becoming increasingly aware that many of their cherished ideals were no longer based on reality. Awake and Sing (1935) and Till the Day I Die (1935) are about the struggle of German communists at the beginning of Hitler's regime. Waiting for Lefty (1935) deals with a taxi strike.

Waiting for Lefty was first performed at the Longacre Theater March 26th 1935 and Till the day I die was first staged on March 26th at the Longacre theater at the same time as waiting for Lefty. An important collectible, in very fine condition.
