Endpapers showing discoloration; tracepaper remanent to fEP (book plate removal?). Frontispiece: Stage scene photo; loose at lower edge. Collection of the three plays that earned Philadephia born, Bronx raised Clifford Odets (1906 - 1963) a reputation of a leading proletarian playwright, although he was less concerned with workers than the "fraud" of middleclass sector who were becoming increasingly aware that many of their cherished ideals were no longer based on reality. Awake and Sing (1935) and Till the Day I Die (1935) are about the struggle of German communists at the beginning of Hitler's regime. Waiting for Lefty (1935) deals with a taxi strike.
