Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1971. Original wraps. Very Good +. The very uncommon 1971 maiden catalogue based on the work of artist David Hammons. Part of a group show, a 3-artist exhibition in this case also featuring the work of important African-American artists Charles White (a teacher and mentor to David Hammons) and Timothy Washington. The exhibition first took place at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from January 26, 1971 thru March 7, 1971 and was followed up with a show at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art from March 20th thru April 17th, 1971. The fragile catalogue, VG to VG+ in its stapled yellow wrappers, has held up well but shows a bit of light soiling and creasing to the panels and very light wear along the spine. Thin quarto, includes a photograph (very likely the earliest one ever published) of David Hammons's iconic "Injustice Case" from 1970, with its indelible image of an African-American man gagged and bound to a chair, the offsetting American flag draping in the background.
