Walter Thompson entered the advertising agency business in 1868 and bought the agency he worked for and named it after himself in 1878. The Thompson Red Book was one of his innovations, the purpose of which was primarily to give the advertiser a great deal of detailed information about the advertising costs of the publications then available. 32pp.
