Mexico City: Editoriales Cultura y Polis, 1938. First Edition Wraps FINE in WRAPS, VG DJ 4to (8 x 11-1/4), 131 pp. Text in both English and Spanish. First edition is in FINE condition, Three small butterfly stickers affixed to front flyleaf, otherwise clean and Unmarked. Slight discoloration at the bottom of the cream-colored paper cover, and some chipping on the top edge of the dust jacket, now in plastic protective cover. Excellently detailed interpretive text. (h) 14 photographs, 6 in B&W, 8 in color, two of those tipped-in. (One piece -- the Totonac Palma -- has two photographs, front and rear, thus the extra photograph. Pieces shown begin with The Aztec Calendar Stone, probably still -- 70 years after this book was printed -- the most important piece in the Museo Nacional, and the inspiration for Octavio Paz's legendary 1957 poem "Piedra de Sol." Also: the Coyolxauhqui head, Xochipilli, The Eagle Knight, Jade Vase, Tecali Vase, Obsidian Vessel, Mixtec Vessel, Totonac Palma, Maya Figurine, Shield of Turquoise Mosaic, Gold Pectoral Plate and Gold Mask , both from Monte Alban and both tipped-in.
