Description

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1936. Although often remembered as one of the blacklisted Hollywood Ten, John Howard Lawson (1894-1977) was also a co-creator of the Screen Actor's Guild and a prolific play and screenwriter. This rare book on the theory and technique of playwriting has become a classic for those writers interested in how to structure and create convincing, well-rounded, balanced characters, within a theatrical framework. Originally published in 1936, this is a Third Impression. The book is in clean, Very Good+ condition. It is bound in a black, woven cloth with yellow lettering on the front panel and spine, and has top-edge red stain. The binding is tight and secure. The pages are clean and bright, with no marks, stains or tears. There is a signature of the former owner, Robert B. Parker, Jr., on the free front endpaper. (Although I purchased this book in Boston in 1965, I don't think this is the same Parker who writes mysteries.) The book measures 5 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches and includes 315 pages, with Index. . Hard Cover. Very Good+/No Dust Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
