About This Item

Cambridge: Harvard University Press,, 1952. Octavo. Original blue cloth-grain boards, titles to spine in dark blue. With dust jacket. Small ink "B" to front free endpaper. Faint sunning along top and bottom edges, the binding otherwise firm and unmarked, internally crisp. A near-fine copy in the very good jacket, minor creasing and edge-splits along top and bottom edges, not priced-clipped, bright. First edition, first printing, of the author's first major work. Drawing on his experience as head of the Office of Price Administration (OPA), Galbraith argues that price control is an overlooked but necessary part of all anti-inflation policies, and that "the theory of control is fated to become one of the expanding universes of economics" (Foreword, p. vii).
