About This Item

Cambridge: Harvard University Press,, 1952. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in dark blue. Spine lightly sunned and a little bumped at ends. A very good copy. First edition, first printing, of the author's first major work. Drawing on his experience as head of the Office of Price Administration (OPA), Galbraith argues that price control is an overlooked but necessary part of all anti-inflation policies, and that "the theory of control is fated to become one of the expanding universes of economics" (Foreword, p. vii). The copy of the Hungarian-American economist Francis M. Bator (1925-2018), with his contemporary ownership signature to the front free endpaper. Bator later served as professor emeritus at the Harvard Kennedy School of political economy, and as Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States from 1965 to 1967.
