"The Theatre of Marvels enthralled millions. This was popular theatre, the theatre of the populace; held in contempt by the snobs, resented by the established managers, persecuted by officialdom. The Theatre of Marvels combined all the marvels of the performing arts - music, circus, mime, ballet, and theatre - to create spectacles of incredible beauty. The never-land of dreams was realized on its stages . . .dancers and actors in purest flights of fantasy. . . animals assumed human attributes . . . fairies warned of lurking dangers. . .reality was jettisoned and the ludicrous made sublime. In place of reality, the supernatural. . . .Inspired by this great outpouring of imagination and fantasy, the great printmakers of America and Europe created a series of posters, lithographs and prints unrivaled for their beauty and delightful subject matter. Marian Hannah Winter has assembled almost 200 of these prints for her book, including eleven color illustrations." Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 4 lbs 5 oz.
