London: Heinemann, 1951. First Edition. Very Good/Very Good. The dust jacket is slightly faded. There are four half-inch or less tears where it bends around the spine, i.e. at top and bottom. There is one other quarter inch tear and it has been bumped, particularly at the top spine end and there are a couple of other minor folds or creases. The jacket says "6th impression". It is price clipped. The book cover is in very good condition. The endpapers are browned and reflect the inside flaps of the dust jacket. There is a small pencilled annotation on top right hand corner of page three of cover ("27. 12. 51"). There is a very light oily stain spreading across the top third of page 11-12 and one associated pinhole. When closed the page tops appear somewhat dusty and the pages themselves are perhaps slightly though regularly yellowed.First Edition. Very Good/Very Good.

Illustrated with five wood engravings by Michael McCurdy. Original teal textured cloth, paper title labels, real buffalo nickel inset on front cover encircled by silver title. Olive green cloth with gilt titles to the spine, Sunned at the backstrip and along the edges of the covers, lightly toned block. Pushed at the tail but the corners are sharp and the book fairly tight and square. Free from owner names etc, a nice clean copy, VG. The dustjacket is price-clipped and rubbed at the corners. Slightly colour-faded at spine, a few little scrapes to the laminate along the top edge. VG dustjacket.

Some minor spots of red offsetting to lower edge of upper wrapper, otherwise very near fine. An unspecified but substantially preproduction draft of Hecht's adaptation of Hemingway's novel of the Great War. It was the novel's second screen adaptation to reach production. This draft precedes John Huston's coming on board as director (and of course his departure, at which point Charles Vidor took over). This draft is nearly 20 leaves longer than several subsequent drafts. Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones starred.

Barfly is a 1987 American film which is a semi-autobiography of poet/author Charles Bukowski during the time he spent drinking heavily in Los Angeles. The screenplay by Bukowski was commissioned by the French film director Barbet Schroeder. Henry Chinaski is a destitute alcoholic who lives in a rundown apartment and works menial jobs when he can find them. An intelligent man and keenly aware of his circumstance, he finds solace in expressing his feelings and perceptions of the world through writing poetry and short stories.
