Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Museum, 1933., 1933.. Very good. - Quarto [10-5/8 inches high by 7-3/4 inches wide], softcover bound in printed tan wrappers. The head & tail of the spine and the overlapping edges of the wrappers are chipped. [x] & pages 323-487. Pages of black-and-white illustrations numbered LXXIII to CLXXI, including archaeological maps, 2 of them folding. Very good.

The aims of the Joint Expedition to Persia by the University Museum and the Pennsylvania Museum of art were twofold: "The first phase of its activities was the test of a Tell in Mesopotamia, namely Fara, supposedly the Sumerian Shuruppak.....Our second and principal task was the excavation of Tepe Hissar, near Damghan in northeastern Persia, and the examination of the neighborhood for the location of the Parthian capital, Hecatompylos, and other sites." [From the opening chapter].
