A rare first edition of Elizabeth Custer's 'Tenting on the Plains.' Custer wrote this book with the attempt of creating a legacy for her husband, General George Custer. She succeeded. In fact, she is without doubt the most important force in creating a sense of 'legend' around her late husband. She turned him into a Western hero and martyr, which slightly differs from the truth in his military failures.

'Tenting on the Plains' covers many of the stories of General Custer's military career and personal life just after the Civil War – reports from Fort Riley in Kansas, military marches of the Seventh Cavalry, life on the prairie, and dispersal of the Army of the Potomac.

This rare edition is filled with 29 full-page illustrations including portraits, views of buffaloes, stage-coach attacks, equestrian training, views of Texas and Kansas plains and landscapes, as well as picket lines by negroes and slaves!

A scientific and philosophical treatise, this title is commonly referenced amongst scholars when discussing the history and development of the modern understanding of scientific evolution. 1698 Hymni Sacri et Novi Catholic Hymns Music Chant Latin Poetry Jean Santeul

Known mostly for his Latin poems, Jean Baptiste de Santeul wrote a plethora of hymns that were published in 17th-century Breviaries. Santeul was a French-born poet who wrote under the name Santolius Victorinus. His complete collection of hymns and hymn texts were published in "Hymni Sacri et Novi" which first appeared in 1689.

This 1698 edition was the first enlarged edition of 'Hymni' and includes Santeul's hymns for all occasions of the Catholic liturgical year. In addition to the Latin text, this book contains hymns with music notation – chant with neumes.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
