Paris: Les Éditions Albert Lèvy, 1931. First Edition. Saude, Picasso, Moholy-Nagy, Leger, Rodchenko, Exter and Bel Geddes among others.. An extremely attractive copy of one of the finest theatre books of the last century. Illustrated with hundreds and thousands of pictures of the costumes, set designs and productions of avant guarde theatre in Europe, Russia and the United States. Illustrations are both photographic and brilliantly coloured in bright pochoir process pigments. Designers include Picasso, Moholy-Nagy, Leger, Rodchenko, Exter, Bel Geddes and directors Meyerhold, Brecht, Reinhardt, Piscator... in fact just about everybody of importance in avant garde theatre in the 1920s. Folio, 380 mm x 280 mm, no. 52 of an edition limited to 615, 124 heliotype plates printed one side only, most with multiple images, 37 of which fully or partly coloured with pochoir stencils in the studio of J. Saude, 35 pp. title, introductory text, and indexes to designers, directors and productions, some pages with more pochoir and other illustrations, quarter black calf and marbled boards, original card wrappers bound in, the paper is a smooth light weight semi-card, most of the plates have a 25 mm blindstamp in the right hand top corner, no markings.

Incorrect book/not as described/damaged: You are eligible for a full refund of the purchase price, including original shipping costs, if your return is a result of an error on the part of Rare Illustrated Books. If we agree, you will receive return shipping too. To receive a refund, you must return your item directly to Rare Illustrated Books within 14 days of the estimated delivery date and in the same condition as you received it.

Book did not arrive: You are eligible for a full refund of the purchase price including shipping costs if your book has not arrived 30 days past the estimated delivery date. If Rare Illustrated Books provides tracking information indicating the book has arrived, the return is void. In cases where the book is returned to Rare Illustrated Books for any of the following reasons, the refund price includes book price only: incomplete address provided by customer, unclaimed, returned to sender, or similar.

Change of mind: For the majority of our books, we are happy to accept returns if you have changed your mind. However, some books cannot be returned for this reason.
