Condition: very good minus (wrinkled tissue guard and title page lightly foxed; spine has triangular chip at crown, at spine foot a bit evenly missing, corners worn to boards). -- Eight illustrations by GEORGE CRUIKSHANK, on single leaves bound in at the beginning--these pages are sharp and clear. These illustrations were originally published together for Cruikshank by D. Bogue, 1847, as "The Bottle." St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
