Signed by the author and inscribed to a previous owner, "To Jaqueline, on the day we climbed from the cellar to the attic and back to the cellar again [signed] Carlos Castaneda / Los Angeles, May 25th 1969." Bound in publisher's dark grey cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Near Fine with faint rubbing to cloth at corners, in Very Good dust jacket with price intact, sunning at and near the spine panel, edge wear with a 1.5-inch closed tear at the head of the front spine fold and light chipping. The author's first account of his encounters with Yaqui shaman Don Juan Matus, published while he was still a grad student by an academic press.
Synopsis
The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge was published by the University of California Press in 1968 as a work of anthropology. It was written by Carlos Castaneda and submitted as his master’s thesis in the school of anthropology. It reportedly documents the events that took place during an apprenticeship he claimed to have served with a self-proclaimed Yaqui Indian Sorcerer, don Juan Matus, between 1960 and 1965.
