About This Item

Albert L. Morse, 1977-03-01. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 12x9x0. Morse, Albert L.; Walsh, John A. [Editor] : The Tattooists. San Francisco : Albert L. Morse, 1977. First edition, one of 2500 copies produced. Royal quarto (4to) size, 12"/31cm h. Case bound in publisher's black cloth, red lettering imprinted to spine and front board. Semi-glossy color dj features front cover reprod of Ed Hardy tattoo design. Endpapers feature striking but uncredited color designs. 128 numbered pp. Features 34 (by my count) tattoo artists, as well as a number of tattoo collectors. Artists represented by their photo, reprod of business card, and examples of the ir work. Eight full color illustrations or photos, the balance in b&w. Bibliography. Condition notes: boards show moderate wear and several spots of discoloration. Binding tight, slightly cocked, boards are very slightly bowed outward. Significant wear to mylar-sheathed DJ, several tears and chips mainly at spine ends. Other than the inscriptions noted below, pages clean, no notes, highlighting or inscriptions. Notably, the volume is signed in two places. Artist Huck Spaulding has signed just under the image of his business card; and collector Elizabeth Weinzirl has inscribed a brief message to former owner on the page where her photo is featured. These inscriptions may have been collected at the 3rd World Convention of Tattoo Artists and Fans in January 1978 in St. Paul, MN. B/c also included w/book is a yellow certificate (8.5" x 5.5") of attendance at that convention, signed by Dave Yurkew, Sr, President of the Convention, and tattoo artist. Also included is the business card of George K. Mitchell for "The International Society of Tattooed People." An interesting and collectible copy of a rare volume. Additional photos available upon request. We personally inspect every book we offer.

About Furrowed Brow Books

Furrowed Brow Books was established in 2020. The bookstore's owner, Paul Purman, grew up in an old farmhouse full of books. Paul had been providing online booksales since 2008 through several popular online sales venues. In 2021 Paul was accepted as a member of the Independent Online Booksellers' Association (IOBA), and graduated from the annual Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS-Minnesota).

Furrowed Brow Books' goal is to offer an eclectic selection, while providing specialty offerings in Eastern Orthodoxy and Byzantine civilization, theology, Christian mysticism, science fiction/fantasy (Inklings emphasis), and military history.

We're happy to discuss making an offer on a collection in one of our specialty areas.
