About This Item

New York: Printed at the Stratford Press, type arranged by S. A. Jacobs, 1927. Hardcover. Fine/very good. Privately printed memoir of legendary Altoona book collector William F. Gable by his lifelong friend, Luther Frees. Cloth 8vo, (2) 11 (2) pp, including frontispiece photo of Gable, and terminal page photo of Frees. Fine in used original wax dust jacket. A memoir of Gable (d. 1921), and also about Gable's amazing and sizable library - 35,000 volumes, and an equal number of manuscripts and autographed material. The sales of part of his library took place in 1923, and is referred to in this volume as 'a few years ago' leading us to assign 1927 as a probable date of publication. Handsome printing. OCLC lists only two copies in collections at Lehigh and Reading.
