Signed by the illustrator of this work, Clifford Webb. With the exceedingly scarce dustwrapper. Signed by the illustrator to the recto of front endpaper 'To Robbie from Clifford Webb Nov 1931'. The inscription is to Robert Cleveland-Stevens.  Possibly Captain Bobby Cleveland-Stevens of the Welsh Guards. Webb illustrated the first two Swallows and Amazons books. With the original exceptionally scarce unclipped dustwrapper in a fantastic condition. The dustwrapper has been subject to some professional repairs, that are imperceptible externally. This story follows the Walker siblings and Blackett sisters camping in the hills and moorland around a lake. It is the second novel in Ransome's famed 'Swallows and Amazons' series. A truly exceptional copy of Ransome's famed children's adventure novel. It is exceptionally scarce to have this work with the dustwrapper. 'Swallowdale' is a fantastic novel rich in sensual detail. A truly captivating and charming work. In the publisher's original cloth binding. With original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, in an excellent condition. Fading to the spine and extremities, as is common with this work. Dustwrapper is in a lovely condition. Professional repairs to the head and tail of wraps internally. Minor offsetting to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Synopsis

Swallowdale is the second book in the Swallows and Amazons series by Arthur Ransome. It was published in 1931. In this book, camping in the hills and moorland country around Ransome's Lake in the North features much more prominently and there is less sailing. A significant new character, Maria Turner, the Blacketts' Great Aunt, is introduced. Ransome was living in the Lake District and he drew on his experiences and memories of encounters over many years with the local farming community.
