This copy is from the library of Albert Murray (1916-2013) and with his business card loosely inserted, "Robert Taylor" pencilled on the verso. This is a great association copy.
Murray has been widely acclaimed for his unique perspective as a cultural critic, Henry Louis Gates Jr being moved to remark in The New Yorker; "This is Albert Murray's century, we just live in it". When asked, in an interview with Marvin Gelfand in 1974, "what do you go out of your way to read now?", he answered "Cormac McCarthy is very strong... He handles his idiom beautifully and has a great intelligence" (p. 10). Octavo. Original black quarter cloth, spine lettered in gilt, yellow paper-covered boards with gilt author's initials to front cover. With dust jacket. Light soiling to edges, the binding firm and square, internally clean and fresh. A very good copy in the very good jacket, spine only very slightly sunned, minute nicks to corners and edge-splits to upper front- and lower rear panels, faint toning to verso, not price-clipped and otherwise bright.
