Edinburgh: Edmonston and Douglas, 1870. Book containing six full page line drawings accompanying the story of a cat's pilgrimage, meeting other animals along the way. 1870 original publcation, 21 pages in very bright clean condition just some foxing on first 3 and last 2 pages. Boards are rubbed on edges and surface but still presentable. Spine is possibly respined professionally in cloth the endpapers look original inside so it is a very good piece of work. John Major, London.,1824. SECOND MAJOR EDITION. Illustrated with 14 copper engraved plates and several woodcuts throughout the text. Two small patches of browning affecting the top outer corner of ten leaves, otherwise a very good copy in fine nineteenth century binding by Thomson of Exeter, with binders ticket on front paste down. Full tan calf, raised bands, compartments fully gilt. Red title label, gilt. Boards with double blind ruled and one gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. School prize plate on front paste down shows that this copy was given as a prize in January 1842. Previous owners name(dated 1881) and ink name stamp on blank endpapers. Front hinge neatly repaired. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in an attractive nineteenth century binding.:

Text and images were printed using photopolymer plates and reduction linoleum blocks. Fonts are Optima Bold and Gill Sans Light. Handbound in quarter-cloth with cover paper of handmade walnut dyed flax. 3.5 x 3.5" illustration inset of quilted papers, which were designed with the artist's mother.
