London: Lockwood & Co, 1871. Small Octavo. [v]-xiii, pages, 1 leaf, 165 pages including diagrams. He began his system in 1804 of solving the problem of subterranean mines as well as the variations with the magnetic needle. This became the definitive edition used in mining at the last part of the nineteenth century. Few copies have survived since they were essential for mining companies and in constant use. Bound in publisher's embossed green cloth lettered in gilt, paper spine label printed in black, some toning to edges of cloth and spine, chipping to head.
