Binding a bit rubbed and bumped but overall sound and the gilt still bright. This copy has a full page original ink self portrait of Orpen on the front blank endpaper, showing the artist painting the famous American Wall Street lawyer and art collector, Paul Cravath. ---- The drawing is inscribed by Orpen at the bottom of the page "My very dear Mr Cravath-It was a big job to tackle on those hot summer afternoons you must admit. All good wishes in 1922.-------(?) William Orpen". Finely bound by Zaehnsdorf in early half dark brown morocco. Spine with raised bands with floral gilt roll design. Compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Floral patterned paper on the boards and endpapers. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Original stiff paper wraps bound in. A very good copy in an attractive late nineteenth century leather binding that has some very light wear to the edges but is overall very good indeed.

Illustrated with colour frontispiece and sixty four mono illustrations on 60 pages, plus decorative endpapers illustrated in red on cream paper. Publishers blue cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. In the original plain brown paper dustwrapper, lettered in black to the front panel and spine. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper with some abrasion to the bottom of the front panel but overall in bright and clean condition.

Chapman and Hall Ltd. London. 1932. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.6 x 5.1 inches). Illustrated frontispiece of a map of the Azanian Empire. A fine clean and fresh copy in original black and red snakeskin patterned cloth, with the spine lettered in gilt. Some very minor rubbing to the extremities of the cloth and a hint of fading to the red of the spine but overall a near fine example with the gilt still very bright and vibrant.

A particularly nice copy of this rare title by the Author of The Phantom of the Opera.
