Princeton, New Jersey: Princeton University Press, 1954. First Edition. Thick Large Quarto. 502 pages, index, illustrated. This work has a panoply of the greatest scholars of the mid-20th century. From Lawrence C. Wroth, Bernard Berenson, Millard Meiss, Edwin Panofsky, Geoffrey Keynes, E.P. Goldschmidt, to the tribute to the Morgan Library by Sir Frederick Kenyon. These represent some of the most noteworthy contributions to both the late Medieval and Renaissance era. Whether it is Erwin Panofsky's work on Flemish painting and the relationship between Italy and the North or what Meiss has noted relating to the symbolism in the work of Pico della Franchesca's 'Monefeltro Alatarpiece. Though Miss Greene died in 1950, Dorothy Miner has continued the work with a fitting memorial to the first director of the Pierpont Morgan Library. Bound in dark green cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, corners only slightly bumped, In green dust jacket printed in back with chipping to spine ends and corners, spine and edges faded. A very good copy.
