About This Item

New York: Grove Press, 1967. 1st Edition . Paperback. Near Fine. Near fine first paperback printing. Notorious BDSM novel. Originally published in France in 1954. Basis for the film. This is a clean, tight copy with no tears or marks. Some rolling to the spine and a hint of separation of the lamination from the wraps at the base of the spine. Overall, a very nice copy of a culturally important work. Scarce, especially in such lovely condition.

Synopsis

Story of O is an erotic novel published in 1954 about dominance and submission by French author Anne Desclos under the pen name Pauline Réage. Desclos did not reveal herself to be the author until four years before her death, 40 years after the initial publication of the book. Desclos said that she had written the novel as a series of love letters to her lover Jean Paulhan, who had admired the work of the Marquis de Sade.
