New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1978. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/very good. SIGNED. 625pp. Octavo [22 cm] Black cloth over boards, with a gilt stamped title on the spine, and the author's initials blind stamped on the front board. Publisher's red top stain. With light dust soiling to the spine and covers, a small stain on the rear cover, and gentle bumping to the extremities. The dust jacket is subtly toned and slightly scratched. The top edge of the rear panel has a shallow closed tear and a 1/4" open tear. The author has signed the half title page. Lessing writes, "Sincerely, Doris Lessing, 17.7.80, 24 Gada Garden, Lade (?)" Doris Lessing has also signed a laid in postcard.
