New York: Viking, 1992. Fine in near fine dust jacket.. Signed first printing of this collection of off-kilter fairy tales that won a 1993 Caldecott Honor, with an original drawing of the titular STINKY CHEESE MAN. THE STINKY CHEESE MAN was Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith's second work as an author-illustrator team, and one of their best-known: it won the NEW YORK TIMES Best Illustrated Book Award, as well as a Caldecott Honor. Smith's charmingly peculiar artistic style has graced publications from children's literature to periodicals, and even the covers of punk rock albums. His children's book illustrations have earned him numerous accolades, including two Caldecott Medals and five New York Times' Best Illustrated Book awards, as well as the adoration of numerous slightly off-center kids (including this cataloguer, who has many fond memories of THE STINKY CHEESE MAN). 10.5'' x 8.5''. Original color pictorial boards. Original unclipped ($16.00) color pictorial dust jacket. Unpaginated. Illustrated in color. Signed by Scieszka and Smith to front flyleaf, with original drawing of THE STINKY CHEESE MAN. Jacket with tiny spot of soil, a hint of rubbing to rear joint. Tight.
