Riverside, New Jersey, U.S.A.: SIMON & SCHUSTER, 2000. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. First Printing--complete number line on the copyright page. A fine copy in a near-fine price-clipped dustjacket. This copy is signed by the author (or in this case also the editor) on the title page--signature only. A rare signed copy of a little known McMurtry work. In addition, this copy was also signed by McGuane and Richard Ford on the front flyleaf. A collection of short stories from gifted authors writing about the West and the West as a frontier--a subject Larry McMurtry is very familiar with--as many of his novels were about settling the West--including the Berrybender Narratives and Lonesome Dove and it's precursors and followups. The authors in this anthology are all gifted and many are either friends of McMurtry, former collegues of McMurtry, former mentors of McMurtry (Stegner) or authors who McMurtry wrote literary criticism about in the NYRB. Altogether a very enjoyable group of stories and a must have for the McMurtry collector.

Description:
NEW YORK: Appleton, 1900. First American Edition . Cloth. Fine/No Jacket. First Printing 1900. From the M. B. Goldstone collection--with his penciled signature and notations lightly written on the front free endpaper. Goldstone and his brother Adrian (Steinbeck's Bibliographer) were relentless collectors of crime and early western fiction--with some of their collection netting over 5 figures at auction. This is a near flawless fine copy from the first printing in 1900. Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to the front board and spine--as well as a depiction of a horse drawn covered wagon on a cloth label to the top front board in cream-- light blue--- and black. This copy has a few small faint splashes to the cloth spine--otherwise mint condition. Tight square and uncompromised--apparently tucked away and unexposed to sunlight and human touch for 110 years. From the author of "The Covered Wagon" and "The Story of The Cowboy", Hough was a master storyteller of early Western Fiction.

NEW YORK: Appleton, 1922. First American Edition 1st Printing. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. First Printing. A hi-spot of American literature. A handsome copy with the rare dustjacket. From the M. B. Goldstone collection of early Western Fiction. This copy is in Very Good condition with a very good unclipped ($2.00) dustjacket. There is overall moderate age toning with some minor wear to the extremities, rubbing to the cloth boards and some soiling to the page ends--a well read copy--but also tight and square with no compromise to the binding or spine. The rare dustjacket is bright and colorful, missing some of the paper at the heel of the spine--and with light chipping at the head of the spine and a couple of closed end tears. The verso of the dustjacket has a Paramount Picture advertisement of the movie starring J. Warren Kerrigan and Lois Wilson--. This copy is protected in a red cloth chemise (covering the dustjacket) that is near fine. The entire book and chemise fits nicely into a custom…
