Philadelphia: James Cremer, 1870. Original photographs. Very Good. One card containing two albumen images of the pews, choir loft, and sanctuary of Christ Church on Second Street, north of Market in Philadelphia. Printed on recto: "James Cremer, Photographer and Publisher, 18 South Eighth Street, Philadelphia." On the verso is a brief history of the Church, founded in 1695 and rebuilt in 1727, along with a list of the rectors since the founding. 4" x 7" to fit into a stereoscope for viewing. James Cremer (1821-1893), a British immigrant, settled in Philadelphia, learned photography, and "by 1872 he was Philadelphia's largest publisher of stereographic views. A prolific photographer, Cremer made both portraits and landscapes" [J. Paul Getty Museum).
