In three volumes, lxiv, 552pp. (colophon dated 1818) containing two large folding maps(Washington in black and white and Eastern US hand-colored), Vol. 2; xii, 517pp., and vol. 3; xii, 588pp., The author's object was to exhibit one of the most complete works with information respecting the progress and present situation of the United States. In collecting his material, besides the ordinary channels, he had been in communication from intelligent correspondents in different quarters of the Union. His information has been drawn almost entirely from original sources. He first writes of the physical features, climate and natural productions of the country. He then gives descriptions of the states and territories, next the government, population, public lands and agriculture, war and naval departments, mint and banks, religion, commerce, manufactures, judiciary and more. A very good set bound in 3/4 tan calf over marbled paper covered boards, rebacked with spine lettered and decorated in gilt, occasional scattered foxing mostly the first and last few leaves, maps with off-setting and each with a closed tear repair.
