Boston: S. E. Cassino and Company, 1886. Title pages dated 1886. Exceptional, handsomely bound complete six volume set of this popular Victorian natural history, illustrated throughout with 178 full page engravings and more than 2200 smaller woodcuts within the text. This is a large set of books, each volume about 10.5 inches tall, eight inches wide, and averaging about two inches thick. Three quarter forest green morocco over matching green cloth, gilt spine lettering, five slightly raised spine bands with compartments embellished in gilt and in blind, marbled edges and endpapers. Minor shelfwear, mainly a bit of rubbing to the extremities, good hinges, firm text blocks, very clean pages free from names or other markings. A clean, sound and attractive set.. Hard Cover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
