Greensburg, PA: Standardized Press, 1938. Octavo. 154p. 3 leaves of plates, illustrations, portraits. One of the most famous "singing cowboys" on the rodeo circuit was "Powder River" Jack Lee and his wfe Kitty. Although he was famous and was accepted by Will Rogers, Tom Mix, Williams S. Hart and Charles M. Russell, his claim to authorship of many of the cowboy poems and ballads has been consider dubious. When he claimed to have written the "Red River Valley" he went too far and much of the poetry in this book is believed to have been pirated though when he finished a performance the audience all wanted to believe. This copy is inscribed to the fine Western painter Oscar Strobel who also was a Scottsdale resident who was a "silver rider" in the Parada del Sol. Power River Jack's sketches for Oscar are on the front and back endpapers. Bound in brown cloth lettered and stamped in gilt, spine plain. A very nice copy.
