Spinoff explains to the American public the secondary benefits of the space program for both the private and public sectors. Spinoff is partially self-serving, of course, to help justify the enormous costs of the space program. However, the space program has in fact been directly or indirectly responsible for a great many technological benefits outside of aerospace, and these issues of Spinoff help make this fact quite clear. The 1977 issue, for example, discusses innovations in medicine, the environment, safety, food, transportation, sports and recreation, and industrial productivity.
