Southern Pacific Lines by (SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD) - 1952

Chicago: Rand McNally & Company, 1952. Folio (50½" X 41"). Heavy glossy stock with black wooden dowels along top (with original metal eyelets and wire) and bottom edge. Very good. Outstanding example of this modern classroom map in a superb state of preservation, with a mild pleasing golden overall age toning and virtually none of the cracks and edge tears that plague these maps. The entire U.S. appears with the names of the SP routes printed in large red letters: Shasta Route, Overland Route, Golden State Road, Cotton Belt Route, Sunset Route and Basking on Sunset Route. Most (not all) of their major route lines also appear in thick red. Small inset detail maps in the Pacific show Portland and Vicinity, San Francisco and Los Angeles, while two in the Gulf of Mexico feature Houston and New Orleans. An exceptional example of a mid-20th century map that normally got worn out from use.
