About This Item

London: Methuen and Company, 1923. First British Edition. Hardcover. Like New. First British edition. 166 pp. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering. Near Fine with small bump to outer edge and a bit of foxing to top edge, but cloth and contents bright and clean.

The Uruguayan author debuted in English with this collection of short stories, a heady Amazonian blend of Kipling, London, and Poe. While still little-known among English readers, Spanish readers and critics generally consider him a major South American author and a progenitor of the magical realist movement.
