About This Item
Self Published. Very Good with no dust jacket; Boards rubbed.. N.D.. Hardcover. 1920s-30s. Green cloth with titles in gilt on front boards and spine. Signed by the author on the fore-edge of page 7, showing his photograph and facsimile signature. Other photos. A collection of verse and photos of Appledore Island and poet Celia Thaxter and her summer house gardens. Laighton was Thaxters brother, and according to Vaughn Cottage, the library and museum on Star Island, New Hampshire, Laighton spent most of his 99 years living in the various Isles of Shoals, including Appledore, lying off the New Hampshire and Maine coasts. During his final years he helped run conferences for the Unitarian Church, which had purchased Appledore Island and its hotels, and it would appear that an attendee of one such conference bought a copy of Laightons book and had it signed on different pages by 49 people with their place of residence (Massachusetts to India) noted. Many signatures are dated 1930. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 84 pages .
