New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1938. Limited Edition. Tall Octavo. 138pp. Limited to 1500 copies signed by Valenti Angelo who illustrated and did the hand-illuminations. The Song of Roland is an epic poem based on the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778, during the reign of Charlemagne. A small chapel of the Holy Spirit sits near a stream in a wooded valley and a few dwellings marks the burial ground of Roland and the peers of Charlemagne who fell there during this battle. Bound in 1/4 gilt decorated vellum over blue paper covered boards pictorially stamped in gilt, blue and red, top edge gilt. A near fine copy in worn and stained slipcase.
