Description:
Cambridge The University Press 1904.. This is either the third printing, as the publisher states, or the second printing of the second edition, as the author states. It is in any case a book in the original Greek: "In preparing these two dialogues for the press, I have used the text of Dindorf (1858), without any alterations in the Menippus, and with only a few in the Timon, duly noted. A few sentances have been omitted in Timon # 16, 17, as being scarcely suitable for class translation.". With Notes to each dialogue, and Index. . Originalleinen

Uber-scarce in the trade, there being currently no additional copies available on-line of this collection of the sayings and satires of Lucian. Lucian of Samosata[a] (c. 125 – after 180), according to his Wikipedia entry, "was a Hellenized Syrian satirist, rhetorician and pamphleteer who is best known for his characteristic tongue-in-cheek style, with which he frequently ridiculed superstition, religious practices, and belief in the paranormal." Though his Mother tongue was likely Syriac, his works are in ancient Greek and then, secondarily, Latin. Two bookplates inside front flap denoting ex-library status (Ex Bibliotheca Borgiana legatum Collegio De Propoganda Fide), endpaper torn at bottom tip, accession sticker to spine bottom of tan paper over boards, moderately rubbed, chipping to spine head and foot, tips bumped and scuffed, ink-stamp at title page, moderately toned of interior,… Read More
