Modeled in part on Jean Renoir's memoir (one of Kurosawa's greatest influences), SOMETHING LIKE AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY was published in Japan in 1981 before appearing in English translation (by Audie E. Bock) the following year. Covering the legendary film director's childhood, through his apprenticeship, and culminating in 1951 when he won the Golden Lion at Cannes for RASHOMON, the book unfolds episodically over more than 50 short chapters. Scarce signed first edition from one of the most important film directors of the 20th century.
