Originally published in the Fortnightly Review in April 1894, this reprint has an additional 7 pp. 'Prefaratory Note' in which Shaw reviews the controversy and its re-opening in January 1909 by a Keir Hardie address attacking Mallock, which provided the occasion for this reprint (dated November 1909).

Additionally, laid in is a brief AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS) by Shaw to Sarolea on his stationery dated 12th Dec. 1911: "Dear Sarolea Will you lunch with us at Adelphi Terrace on Thursday at 1:30?
