[Mogilev]: V Polevoi Tipografii Glavnogo Shtaba 1-i Armii, 1819. Octavo (17.7 × 11.1 cm). Contemporary patterned calf; all edges gilt; [3], 75, [2], XII pp. Three charts and forms on two folded leaves. Binding rubbed; small private owner labels to front pastedown; else about very good. Second edition of a very rare compilation of instructions for soldiers of the First Russian Imperial Army, with detailed instructions for various types of guardsman service, marching orders, rules for reporting to superiors, as well as behavior during formal military parades. The two folding leaves contain templates for evening reports, reports on arrivals and departures, and arrest sheets. The work appears to be the second edition of a manual published in Mogilev, in today's Eastern Belarus, which appeared in 1818 (according to a copy held at the Russian State Library in Moscow). Similar works are also known to have appeared at Warsaw, the site of the infamous Warsaw Garrison, established in 1813 and reenforced by such famous generals as Ivan F. Paskevich and Barclay de Tolly. Both of these leaders commissioned short collections of instructions for the troops; Paskevich's manual was even considered the first secular book printed at Warsaw. We cannot trace our edition in KVK or OCLC. The only similar text was formerly held by the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, but is now marked a war loss. This appears to have been an 1816 edition of the work of Ivan Paskevich, the "Prince of Warsaw." It is possible that the text of our work is also based on either Paskevich's or De Tolly's manuals. Rare; not recorded in the Russian trade (including auctions), or in Western auction records.

1792 1ed RUSSIA English Ivanovich on Russian Empire Military Catherine Great

Sergei Pelcheev Ivanovich's 'Survey of the Russian Empire' is perhaps the best 18th-century account of the politics, military, and social customs of the Russia during the reign of Catherine the Great. It provides commentary on the different governments in the Russian Empire, including a section of the governing bodies in Estonia, and notes on different ethnic peoples throughout Northern Asia and Eastern Europe
This 1792 English edition was translated from the original Russian by James Smirnove. Note the huge folding table of arms and uniforms of the Russian Empire.
